5 Lecciones Que Aprendí en #NicheParent14 / Top 5 Takeaways from #NicheParent14

The Coronado Springs at Disney was the perfect location for this family-oriented event.

I’ve attended my fair share of social media conferences since I began blogging in 2009. Blogger and influencer events run big, small, medium-sized, and every size in between. I’ve been to mainstream blogger events, and events designed for minority influencers.

Then, this month, I attended Niche Parent 2014.

This was my first time attending Niche Parent, and I was very excited that they brought the conference to my “neighborhood” of Orlando!

As a nearly-lifelong Floridian, I’ve been conditioned to squeal with excitement at this sight.

“Old content is only old to YOU.” – @Momables

Aprovecha y recicla esas entradas que has publicado.

This was the first epiphany I encountered at Niche Parent. The realization that I’d been wasting my content just because it hadn’t been published recently, hit me hard.

Unless it’s breaking news, content doesn’t need to age!

Take advantage and recycle your posts. Find your best content and, if need be, edit it to make it relevant for today. Then share it on Twitter or on other social networks.

Okay, there are some exceptions to this rule…but they are very few. (For instance, if you are collaborating with an organization to benefit a good cause, it’s understandable that there may be little or no pay.)

But for the most part, if you are up working in the wee hours of the morning, writing a 600-word post, editing photos, and sharing them on your social platforms, why do it for free? That is simply ridiculous.

Your time and energy are worth money. If you accept this and acknowledge it, you’ll see how brand representatives and others in the community will respect you.

“Use the additional links box or ‘magical box’ to sell extra things you’d do for the campaign. Go beyond requirements.” – @latinomarketing

Thank you, Lourdes, for organizing the spectacular Sunset Dinner at Animal Kingdom!

This tip came from Cristy Clavijo-Kish, a person I really respect and with whom I’ve worked for campaigns for Latina Mom Bloggers. Many times, we bloggers assume that we should do only what is required by the campaign, however, there are always those who will go the extra mile, and the brand as well as the blogger network will notice those efforts.

When you apply for a campaign, try to stand out. Even if you don’t have the readership or following they want, take the opportunity to let them know what you can bring to that project.

Oh. Cielos. Santos. NO.

Date a respetar…has trabajado mucho para tu(s) blog(s), y has diseñado tu plataforma.

Oh. Dear. Heavens. NO.

Telling a brand that you’re willing to work for free really devalues your personal brand and it undermines you. You’re given them permission to not take you seriously. Respect yourself…you have worked for your blog(s), and have designed your platform. Even if you started out working for free on occasion, now is the time to take yourself seriously as a professional.

I really the session led by Matt Wallaert of Bing, and Laura Fuentes of Momables. They demonstrated, step by step, how to optimize a blog for search engines like Bing and Google. The ease with which others find your blog affects how much paid work and other opportunities you will receive, so I really appreciate that Matt and Laura took the time to explain to us how to achieve this.

All in all, Niche Parent was a different event where I learned much more with less sessions, in more intimate groups. I also had fun like a kid!

Thanks to the Niche Parent team and their sponsors for organizing events at Disney, Universal, and Sea World!

And thanks to my dear friend Nadia Jones, founder of Niche Parent, for making this event possible! I congratulate you from the heart.
