To define Carlos Vives as an artist with a deep heart would be appropriate. The Colombian, native of Santa Marta, demonstrated early on an affinity for the arts that has undoubtedly influenced the passion in his songs.

Having sold over 14 million albums has turned this paisa into an international superstar. However fame, has not altered his humble and simple attitude.

Carlos Alberto Vives Restrepo was born in Santa Marta, Colombia, in 1961. It was there in Santa Marta that he began his career as a composer and musician when in 1977, at age 16, he wrote a song tribute to the late Spaniard scientist, Mateo Matamala. Vives placed first in the Colombian music festival at Iragua University, and the talented teenager could no longer be anonymous.

Later on, Vives was encouraged by a fellow student to pursue acting, and he developed his theatrical abilities. This new interest led him to appear on various television programs, including “Little Giants” and “Pharaoh.” In 1994, he directed one of the first programs to air at night on Colombian television, “La Tele.”

His successes in the realm of television coincided with his rise in the world of music. He recorded two ballad albums under Sony Music, and in 1987, he was nominated for a “Premio Lo Nuestro” in the category, “Breakthrough Artist.”

Today, the passion and simplicity that defined Vives during the first few years of his career, continue to describe him. Vives holds the record for the most Latin Grammy nominations, and he was the first Colombian artist to receive an American Grammy. In Spain, he won the Barcelonan ONDAS award.

But the successes of Carlos Vives are not limited to the realm of entertainment. In the category of philanthropy, Vives is also an overachiever.  The humanitarian is a Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF (he loves helping kids!) and he also participated in the PAZ SIN FRONTERAS (PEACE WITHOUT BORDERS) concert.

Now, in celebration of his new album, “Corazón Profundo,” I’ll have the opportunity to attend the Carlos Vives concert on Friday, July 12th, at Amway Center in Orlando.

And, in celebration of the second anniversary of Espresso con Leche on the Fourth of July, someone else will have the opportunity to win two (2) tickets to that concert.

Good luck, and tell us what’s in that “Deep Heart” of yours!
